The series takes place in the town of Dodge City Kansas and the series first began on radio and ran from 1952 to 1961 with various lead stars . It moved to TV in 1955 and ran a full 20 years to 1975 after completing 635 complete episodes. It was #1 in ratings from 1957 to 1961 and remained in the top 10 till the 1973-1974 season.
