This little spun brass whale-oil lamp with a double-snake ring handle and copper snuffer appears to be of the form illustrated in the 1821 advertisement of W. Blakeway & Son, Birmingham, pictured on p. 215 of Gowitt's 19th Century Elegant Lighting (Schiffer, 2002). Glass globe is missing, but otherwise in fine condition. Height 2", base diameter 4 1/2".
