A beautiful, transitional piece of lingerie dating from the Edwardian era, likely the late 1900s to early 1910s. One of the first brassieres, a precursor to the modern bra.

This boned garment is a bit like a corset cover, but with some extra structure to give shape and support to the bust. Sometimes referred to as a bust bodice, boned corset cover, or brasserette, this particular piece was made by Warner and was advertised as a brassiere.

Tag reads: Warner's Rust-Proof Brassiere on one side and Cotton Brassiere made in U.S. America on the other side.

According to multiple different advertisements for these garments, brassieres could be worn with or without a corset. This piece appears to have been designed to be worn with a corset.

Lace trim, built in dress shields. Two buttons on the back. Straps cross in back and tie in the front.

Marked as a size 42

42 bust

+++ Condition +++

Lovely condition with minor age-related wear but no significant flaws to note. Two small stains, as shown in photos, barely noticeable. If this piece was ever worn at all, it was very well cared for!

Would have likely had a clip on the cotton strap in the front to attache to corset.

Definitely still wearable with care and also a wonderful study piece or addition to a lingerie / corset collection.

+++ Please read +++

This item is not new, and as such, it has wear commensurate with age. As with all older vintage and antique items, please handle with care.
